Ro Murray
About the work
Brief Statement of Facts explores my interest in stories and places. Based on research about the Hume and Hovell 1824 overland expedition from Lake George/Weereewaa to Port Phillip, as part of the colonial gaze to “discover” land for occupation. The work uses the scroll form as a landscape journey with topographic and historic references, particularly around Canberra. The title comes from the 1835 pamphlet by Hamilton Hume to refute William Hovell as the leader of the expedition.
Nine rolls were printed during a residency in 2024 at Megalo Print Studio Canberra
