About the work
Joey and child is a reflection on the importance of environmental connection in the context of the Canberra landscape. The laying forms of the young girl and eastern grey joey are symbolic of trust and nurturing, and of a future led by the youth of today. In this future we work in collaboration with the living world around us, finding respect for the non-human mechanisms that are essential to our own quality of life. It is a hopeful work, made for everyone to appreciate as it forms part of the sculpted landscapes of the National Arboretum Discovery Gardens.
