About the work

The ‘New Aesthetic’ is a conversation within contemporary art which recognises the agency of the digital ghosts of architectural drawings. In a similar vein, Kairouz expands this notion of personified digital agency beyond mere architectural ghosts and towards shared and personal experiences of memory, digital and internet culture. This work examines the interplay between technology and queered processes of identity construction which is achieved through the personification of boundaries, such as the representation of imagined experiences through childlike monsters or phrases. Interconnections between shared or personal experience are juxtaposed through imagined and outlandish fantasy narratives, culminating in naïve, playful outcomes. In this way, the objects will queer the audience’s pre-conceived notions of identity and emphasise the viewer’s own experience. By drawing upon theoretical research and the artist’s lived experience, Kairouz’s work engages culturally and socially, advocating for queer representation and ‘intersectional’ experiences.

About the artist

Isaac employs a practice-led creative research methodology to interrogate intersectional experiences and queer identity construction. Kairouz’s creative research operates at the nexus of spatial practice, play and fantasy; in doing so, they recontextualise intersectional experience within a fine art environment and discourse.
