Bookrunner is a quality new and second-hand bookstore based in Kamberri/Canberra, Australia. Dedicated
to the distribution, understanding and advocacy of underrepresented, othered and marginalized voices.
Amongst their stable of select domestic and international publishers for distribution, priority is given to
translations of works not previously published in English, print culture and poetics, the intersection between
poetry, essays and the novel, and the visual and performing arts. Tightly curated second-hand collections
specialise in classic to contemporary world literature and poetry, art, photography, architecture and design
inclusive of art history, theory, and philosophy. Their current catalogue of new, independent and small print
publishers include Amphetamine Sulphate Books, Contra Mundum Press, Montez Press, Ugly Duckling
Presse, Winter Editions, and World Poetry.
First established in Naarm/ Melbourne by Robert Lloyd in response to the COVID pandemic during 2020,
Bookrunner emerged as means to connect, disseminate and share his knowledge and appreciation of artist
books, contemporary authors, small print publishers and second-hand literary classics to audiences across
regional Victoria and Australia, more broadly. Over the last six years Robert Lloyd’s online demand for high
quality and ethically priced new, rare and second-hand publications quickly outgrew its original business
model.
Re-launching in April 2026 in collaboration with Art Historian, Writer and Curator, Anja Loughhead
Bookrunner found a physical shopfront at Dairy Road, nestled between the Jerrabomberra Wetlands and
the industrial suburb of Fyshwick in Kamberri/Canberra. In addition to the bookstore, office and stockroom
the space features integrated exhibition areas and window installations. In this context Anja Loughhead
brings their experience as an editor, published author and curator to Bookrunner. Here, their in-depth
knowledge of post-war North American and Australian art history, artist books, archives and ephemera
drive the program of exhibition displays, artist in conversations, readings and performances.
